Google Earth - Fingal Maps

Fingal Development Board is testing the use of the Google Earth programme to communicate basic geographic information to members of the public.

We are very interested in hearing people’s views on the use of this software to communicate this information. Is there any other information you can think of that you would like to see in this format? Please contact us and let us know.

Fingal Development Board has prepared some files for Google Earth relating to Fingal. To access the files you first need to download the Google Earth program. You can download the program for free at http://earth.google.com/

Download the Fingal County Boundary – KMZ File

The Fingal boundary was set out by the Chief Boundary Surveyor in 1985, and became a county boundary in 1994 when Fingal achieved county status. Fingal covers the area from just south of the M50 to north to the river Delvin, and also includes Blanchardstown and Howth.

Google Earth satellite photography does not yet cover some parts of Fingal, namely Balbriggan, Garristown and west Blanchardstown.

Download Fingal County Council’s Civic Offices – KML File

Fingal County Council currently operates from two central locations, County Hall on Main Street, Swords and Civic Offices on Grove Road in Blanchardstown. Click on locations to see opening times and contact numbers.

Download Fingal County Council’s Mobile Library Database – KML File

In addition to the 7 permanent buildings provided by Fingal County Council, the council operates 48 mobile library stops throughout the county. Click on each of the main building points to see its opening times. To see the timetable for the mobile libraries, click the link in any of the mobile library locations.

Google Earth software requires 20MB of free space on your hard-drive and is not recommended for download unless you have a broadband Internet connection.

Because of different projection systems and vector resolution, the county boundaries may be inaccurate to 100m or more in some areas. It is recommended that you always consult Ordnance Survey mapping materials if you are unsure about the accuracy of the boundaries. Alternatively, visit www.osi.ie for product information.

Fingal Development Board accepts no responsibility for Google Earth software.
