Key Tasks

• To maximise the tourism potential of Fingal by developing and expanding the range of facilities and services to attract tourists.

• To consider key policy issues affecting tourism in the County – access, transport, facilities, pricing etc.

• To increase Fingal’s overall share of Dublin’s tourism revenue.

Benefits

Improved range of services, increased visitor numbers, more viable business ventures and increased employment in the tourism sector.

Sub Issues

• Establish a specific identity for Fingal

• Consider underdevelopment in specific areas e.g. marine tourism.

• To identify a flagship project for Fingal.

• To promote artistic and cultural venues.

• To develop special festivals and celebrations at various times throughout the year.

• To develop a Fingal Walking Way.

• To develop a tourism cycle trail.

• To develop inland waterways as a leisure/tourist amenity.

Methodology

Devolve responsibility for these actions to Fingal Tourism, which will liase with and input to the Board for implementation.

Work Programme for 2004

• Set up a working forum to consider specific issues;

• Consult with key tourism suppliers;

• Research obstacles to tourism development– accessibility, accommodation, transport, pricing etc. and write policy paper.

Resources Implications

• Resource - Fingal tourism staff.

• FDB to pay costs of engaging outside expertise if required.
