InitiativesAt the December 2003 Board meeting it was decided to cluster the actions under the Initiatives and Committee structures below. AirportThis Initiative seeks to set up a forum for all stakeholders
in the airport (Community, Local Government, Business and Airport Authority).
In particular the forum will look at balancing Economic and Environmental
issues going forward given that the growth of the Airport is inevitable.
Civic ResponsibilityThis Initiative seeks to promote participation, volunteering,
neighbourliness and social responsibility among the communities in Fingal.
Research is underway on various aspects of these themes with a particular
focus on participation with local democracy structures. County DataThis Initiative seeks to work with all the various state
agencies who keep administrative statistics and seeks to promote data
sharing in order that the Board and it's partner agencies can make more
informed decisions about future services and infrastructure needed in
the County. County Development Plan This Initiative seeks to influence the County Development
Plan on themes which have not always to the fore in orthodox physical
planning. Examples include mainly socio-economic themes like social inclusion,
children and childcare, community development and economic development. County IdentityThis Initiative seeks to lay the groundwork for the eventual
full consensual recognition of Fingal as a County by promoting the seperate
history, culture, unique physical heritage, image and positive focus to
that of the wider Dublin region. In particular it seeks to have Fingal
widely regarded as much more than just an 'administrative area', and in
line with the status afforded in the 1993 Local Government Act. Crime PreventionThis Initiative seeks to promote co-operation between the three Garda Divisions that cover Fingal as well as assist with involving other agencies in a multi-sectoral response to crime across the county, bearing in mind specific local needs. This Initiative will assist the rolling out of the Community Policing Fora mentioned in the Garda Bill. For further information contact Hilary Kendlin. Economic Development Monitoring CommitteeThis Monitoring Committee seeks to co-ordinate the work of various state agencies and social partners in the areas of local Labour Market Development, Enterprise Development and key Economic Infrastructure. For further information contact David Pryor. EducationTo ensure the timely provision of appropriate community
facilties in local neighbourhoods that meet a broad range of social, cultural
and recreational needs. EvaluationThis initiative is temporarily on hold until later in 2005 due to a decision by the Board not to evaluate until substantial progress was made on implementing the Strategy. The aim of the initiative is to measure the effect of the strategy on the lives of the public. For further information contact Ciaran Staunton. Planning for Community GainTo ensure the timely provision of appropriate community
facilties in local neighbourhoods that meet a broad range of social, cultural
and recreational needs. Social Inclusion Monitoring CommitteeThis Committee is a major driver for equality and social inclusion and seeks to ensure that these principles are achieved across all aspects of the Board's work. For further information contact Ciaran Staunton. SustainabilityThis Committee seeks to ensure that the economic, social and cultural development of Fingal is achieved in a sustainable manner with regard to the future. For further information contact David Pryor. TourismThis Initiative seeks to maximise the Tourism potential of Fingal by developing and expanding the range of facilities and services to attract tourists and to consider key policy issues which affect Tourism. For further information contact David Pryor. TransportThis initiative promotes public transport within the policies
of Fingal County Council and supports existing local structures to lobby
central government to provide key infrastructure. This will emphasise
additional bus and rail services, and supporting infrastructure where
appropriate. |
